Purpose:
In this study we are interested in comparing
the relationships that twins have with each other. We will examine how
this relationship is different or the same for: 1) identical and fraternal
twins, 2) male and female twins, and 3) twins at different ages.
We are also interested in studying twins' relationships with their friends,
especially their closest friend of the same sex and their closest friend
of the opposite sex.
Study Procedures:
If you agree to participate
in this study, you will be given a questionnaire package that includes
questions about the people in your life who are close to you (acquaintances,
friends, and close friends), and your relationship with your twin, your
best friend of the same sex and your best friend of the opposite sex. In
addition you will be asked to complete a short questionnaire to determine
whether you are an identical or a fraternal twin. In total, this questionnaire
package should take you no more than 45 to 60 minutes to complete. For
your time and inconvenience you will be given $10 once your questionnaire
has been returned.
Confidentiality:
Any information collected through
the questionnaires will be kept confidential. The information from these
questionnaires will be coded using an identification number, and all questionnaires
will be filed in a locked filing cabinet. Furthermore, your name will not
be released to anyone, and it will not appear in any report, oral presentation,
or publication for this study.
Voluntary Participation:
Your participation in this
study is entirely voluntary. You may refuse to participate, refuse to answer
any questions or withdraw from the study at any time. There are no known
physical or psychological risks associated with participating in this study.
