I am a social anthropologist whose research interests include the environment, agriculture, and food consumption as these intersect with poverty and sustainable development in urban settings. My work straddles various disciplinary subfields, including urban anthropology, the anthropology of space and place, the anthropology of food, the anthropology of the state, and political ecology.

My research to date has primarily centered on contemporary urban agriculture initiatives taking place in a range of Latin American and Canadian cities, including Havana (Cuba), Rosario (Argentina), and Toronto (Canada). Among other things, this work has explored the ongoing redefinition of state-civil society relations, the restructuring of the food system, the repackaging of corporate interests, and the spread of environmental sensibilities both in and across socialist and capitalist contexts.
