I am a PhD student at the University of Windsor & AgriFood Canada in Harrow supervised by Dr. Sherah VanLaerhoven & Dr. Roselyne Labbé. I am studying ways to better understand the ecology of an exotic insect pest of greenhouse & field pepper crops. The pepper weevil (Anthonomus eugenii) is native from Mexico but is present in the United States and recently in southern Ontario. I am researching different approaches using alternate hosts, natural enemies and of course temperature! that contribute to the management and mitigation of this pest in Canada. I came to the Sinclair Lab to -mostly but not only- freeze pepper weevils and determine how tolerant they are to low temperature, and if they will survive the infamous Canadian winter in southern Ontario.
