Software that performs tasks that would otherwise be performed by human experts. (Software packages that help to produce expert systems are called expert system shells.) (An expert system uses its inference engine to derive new knowledge from its knowledge base.)

knowledge engineers

People who obtain knowledge from human experts and organize it into a knowledge base for an expert system. ComputerUser

Field concerned with creating devices that can move and react to sensory input.

knowledge bases

Databases of knowledge designed to be used by AI software especially by expert systems. ComputerUser

virtual reality

An artificial environment created with computer hardware and software and presented to the user so that it appears and feels like a real environment.
