LIS 523/5 - Search Tools

A site search tool is useful for a site that has many useful pages and whose link organization may not provide the kind of access that is helpful to many users.

A site search tool may reside on the site server or may be provided on another site. Some Web hosting services have search tools available.

Parts of a site search tool

A simple search tool may omit the search indexer and search index and may even combine the search engine, search form, and search results listing into a single script.

Preparing the site

If you want to use a site search tool, it may be a good idea to provide page providers with guidelines on the types of titles, "description" and "keyword" meta tags, and headings to include in their pages.
