A print media tradition is always report the science/religion relationship
as conflict, or controversy, or warfare, etc., such as " -- while science
and religion often is depicted as irreconcilable antagonistic -- "
(Globe&Mail,97-04-04). The negative relationship is detrimental to both
sides. Application of simple common sense can expose the fallacy. The
ecclesiastical teachings of the major world religions (see above) are
compatible with science, with Christianity the exception. Why? Indeed,
WHY? Furthermore, only two major concepts of science are cited - the age
of the earth, and evolution, as applied in biology and paleontology -
because they are considered as contrary to the Judaic-Christian
Scriptures. But science, <in toto> is cast in disfavour.

During December 1996 and January 1997, the following original question was
sent by e-mail within an explanatory letter, to hundreds of Christians -
laypersons, scientists, ministers, students - WHAT IS GOD'S ATTITUDE ON
THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN CHRISTIANITY AND SCIENCE? Although only 8%
replied and sent one word as requested, 78% sent the same word -
COMPATIBLE!! Thus GOD considers Christianity and science are compatible,
as is the case with all other major religions. I await any challenge to
that conclusion. Comprehensive analyses to explain the exception of
Christianity must exist and initiating resolution is possible. The 13
decade plus old argument must be based on a lack of perception,
misunderstanding, an unwillingness to consider new ideas and
interpretations, and with some, a determination to perpetuate the arguing.
Changing one's mind is difficult. Personal attitude is the key.

Essay #3 'Earth's Old Age Evidence Confronts the Young Earth Myth' is an
analysis to illustrate the age of the earth according to Scripture is the
same as by geoscience research. The conclusion is EARTH IS OLD!  Once
agreement exists on that correlation, then the research results from
astronomical and numerous radiometric dating techniques, can be used to
establish the absolute dates for the earth, the planets, the sun, and the
universe.

Rational discussion about EVOLUTION  requires agreement on a comprehensive
and acceptable definition (See definition in Essay #1). Charles Darwin
apparently was aware that biological evolution can be understood in
Scripture (see 'Life of Charles Darwin', F.Darwin ed.,1902,p.42), but
failed to appreciate the significance relative to his contentious theory.
One relevant point is the Hebrew word for 'kind', pronounced 'meen', which
occurs ten times in Genesis, and elsewhere, can be translated as
'species', revealed by three linguistic scholars of Scripture - Anglican,
R.C.,and Jewish - each using a different Hebrew-English dictionary.. The
implications should be evident. In addition, 'speciation', the basic
process of biological evolution, can be understood in Scripture (See
analysis in Essay #1). For a literalist that should indicate Truth!! [The
scientific evidence is sufficient to persuade the evolutionists!!] One
prominent 'anti-evolutionist' wrote "the Bible does not provide detailed
data but it does provide the basic principles". I attempted to explain the
basic principle of biological evolution in Scripture, but his mind was
closed.

If biological evolution can be understood in Scripture, the basic text for
the Christian faith, then the endless arguing and mountain of books,
articles, etc., produced over the last 13 plus decades and counting, the
debates, lawsuits, and legislation - all has been for nought. From another
perspective, the common occurrence of biological evolution in Scripture
and science, provides a connecting bridge between the two. The concept
which has been rejected becomes the connecting link!!!

As GOD considers Christianity and science as compatible; as Scripture, and
astronomy and geoscience provide at the first instance the same age for
earth - OLD; and as Darwin's biological evolution acts as a bridge between
Scripture and science, then a willingness to consider new ideas and
be prepared to change  attitude, especially by Christians, will
initiate resolution for a too long persisting, divisive and fatuous
argument, which has been detrimental to both Christianity and science. Let
us change a lose-lose relationship, into a win-win relationship!! Just
contemplate the consequences for both, and the potential for each sector
of knowledge. The bottom line is HALLELUJAH!! HURRAH!!, at last - PEACE!!
between the two most influential philosophies of human knowlege.

Consider a final thought by  Julian Huxley, "Evolution in Action", 1953,
Preface, vii --- Simplification is sometimes desirable in order to draw
attention to general tendencies. The subject may become so obscure in a
mass of detail while unifying principles are lost to sight amongst
contradictory particulars.
