  2. Scottish Classics Group, Introducing Cicero: A Latin Reader. Bristol Classical Press, 2002. ISBN 1853996378.

Recommended Texts:

  1. A good Latin-English dictionary (e.g. C.T. Lewis, ed. Elementary Latin Dictionary, OUP 1995).
  2. Allen and Greenough's New Latin Grammar (Focus Publishing, 2001). Also available online at the Perseus Project web site.

The required and recommended texts are available at the UWO Bookstore. Other dictionaries and grammatical compendia are also acceptable. Please see me to discuss any substitutions.

Schedule
  1. We will aim to read one chapter of Nepos per class meeting, paying careful attention to syntactical and literary matters. Combined with this approach, we will review material covered in the first two years of Latin study and build on those foundations.
  2. A similar approach to reading Latin prose will be undertaken in the second part of our readings, namely the selections from Cicero's oeuvre.
  3. There will be a quiz every week, usually on Mondays, that will test students' understanding of the material covered in the three previous weeks.

Grading

1. Weekly Quizzes: 20%
2. Homework Assignments: 15%
3. Participation and Preparation: 15%
4. Term Test (Nov. 02): 20%
5. Final Examination: 30%
