Code of Ethics


  1. To protect the integrity of the archives in one's care.
  2. To maintain objectivity and impartiality in the management of archival materials in one's care.
  3. To arrange and describe archives and make information from and about them available (based on national and international standards), in order to ensure the best access to and use of the archives while protecting the authenticity and integrity of the materials. In short, to follow best practice standards so that the archivist achieves an acceptable level of physical, administrative and intellectual control over one's holdings.
  4. To ensure the continued accessibility of archival materials.
  5. To encourage the widest possible access.
  6. To retain one's own professional integrity.
  7. To pursue personal and professional excellence by actively maintaining and upgrading one's knowledge, skills and abilities.
