deciding which records are of sufficient value for acquiring. Appraisal entails certain procedures and standards in order to make sound and consistent choices. Not only do they consider the intellectual content, but also the physical condition (preservation costs and care). Overall, a very critical stage (indeed the most critical), as what we as archivists decide is worth keeping, has a direct impact on how history is to be written.
