The Law Library and parts of the Faculty of Law building have been "wired" to allow wireless access through a laptop or notebook computer to the UWO network. Users must authenticate with a valid uwo userid and password.
The system is built using Ethernet wireless standards. Currently running on "wireless Ethernet" ( Wi-Fi IEEE 802.11b) the network provides high speed connectivity to UWO information systems, resources, and the Internet.
Assistance from Law/ITS
Law students requiring ANY assistance with their laptop wireless hardware/software setup should make an appointment with one of our ITS staff in Law:
The Law/ITS office is in the Research Lab (219-B)
- Robert Thorogood (rethorog@uwo.ca)
- Sasha Jokic (sjokic@uwo.ca)
Your Laptop
In order to connect to the wireless network, you will need to know some basic information about your laptop computer:
- Wireless Card
Check the documentation that came with your laptop to find out if there is an internal wireless antenna or if you need to purchase a wireless card.
- Anti-Virus Software
Make sure that your computer is running the most current version of the installed anti-virus software by checking the manufacturer's website. The Campus Computer Store sells PC-Cillin for around $15.00. Computers that are infected, compromised or running viruses, spy ware, malicious code and other activities such as peer-to-peer clients, will be locked out of the network until they comply with ITS requirements.
- Microsoft Security Updates
http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com
On the Windows Update site, click Scan for Updates. Windows Update will scan your computer and give you a pre-selected list of critical updates which you can then install.Detailed instructions about the wireless network at Western are at the Wireless at Western site:

Printing
Law/ITS staff or lab supervisors can help you to configure your laptop to print to the Library printer (near the circulation desk in the Law Library). Instructions for downloading drivers and registering for PrinterOn can be found at:
http://www.uwo.ca/its/doc/hdi/wireless/printerOn.htmlNOTE: The vendor we use for wireless printing from a laptop does not support Macs or Vista. We are working on another solution for later in the year. You do have the option of printing from pcs in the computer labs.
