Postdoctoral Positions
Postdoctoral positions are available in Dr. Gary Shaw's laboratory in the Department of Biochemistry at Western University (London, Canada).
The successful applicants will be involved in an exciting and world-class research program to examine the mechanisms of ubiquitination involved in neurodegenerative diseases,
including three-dimensional structure and protein interactions. Candidates should be highly motivated and strong team players. Experience in methods such as molecular biology,
protein purification, NMR spectroscopy, X-ray crystallography and molecular modelling would be an asset. Further information on research in the lab and significant publications can be found on this website.
The starting salary is highly competitive and will be based on qualifications.
The preferred qualifications include a recent Ph.D. in Biochemistry or Chemistry or a related field with a competitive publication record. Applicants are expected to have strong
organizational skills and excellent written and verbal skills in English. Western University is located in London, Ontario, Canada's 11th largest city. Located in Southwestern Ontario, London
offers many of the features and health care advantages of a larger city but is far more affordable than most Canadian and American cities. For further information please see

Applicants should send a CV and contact information for references to Dr. Gary Shaw by e-mail at gshaw1@uwo.ca .
Starting dates are flexible but are preferably within the next 6 months.
Graduate Student Positions
PhD graduate student positions are available to examine (1) the mechanisms of ubiquitination involved in neurodegenerative diseases and (2) mechanisms
of membrane repair and trafficking by calcium-signalling proteins. Both projects will provide exceptional training and skill development in methods such as molecular biology,
protein purification and computational methods. In addition students will obtain excellent analytical skills in data analysis and molecular modelling.
Projects will involve the determination and analysis of protein interactions and three-dimensional structures primarily using biophysical methods such as isothermal titration calorimetry, NMR spectroscopy
and surface plasmon resonance spectroscopy. Candidates should be ambitious and strong team players who see themselves as having a career in scientific research. Experience in the above techniques and methods would be
an asset but is not required.
Potential students are expected to have an undergraduate degree in Biochemistry or Chemistry or a related field. PhD graduate students will be enrolled in
the Graduate Program in Biochemistry which features a competitive annual stipend and an exciting research environment.
Students may also choose to enroll in the Graduate Program in Neuroscience
which features outstanding collaborative opportunities, especially with researchers focused on understanding the mechanisms of neurodegenerative diseases.

Living in London Many affordable housing choices are a short walk or bike ride from campus. A London Transit bus pass
is also provided to all graduate students. PhD students will also have unlimited access to the Western Recreation Centre
that houses state-of-the-art fitness facilities.
Applicants should contact Dr. Gary Shaw by e-mail at gshaw1@uwo.ca for further information.
Starting dates for graduate studies are September, January and May each year.
