Research
Equally important to the linguistic study of Malagasy are the comparisons with other languages within the same family. Since 1993, the Austronesian Formal Linguistics Association has met annually to discuss these languages. Within Canada, prominent linguists with an interest in the Austronesian include Diane Massam at the University of Toronto, who works on Niuean.
