Welcome to the Wisner Group Website

We are interested in the design, synthesis and characterization of new molecules that associate with each other in specific ways using multiple weak, non-covalent interactions.  The use of such interactions allows for the strong, reversible and selective complexation of specific molecules by our designed hosts (termed molecular recognition) that can further result in the self-assembly of complex nanoscale structures that may be engineered to provide unique behaviours in materials based on them.  See our research interests and recent publications for some examples of these principles.

Members of the group gain research experience that spans a range of techniques - from the synthesis and characterization of the basic building blocks to directing their supramolecular association in the solution and solid states, determining the structures of the complexes they have constructed and (hopefully!) understanding how these associations dictate the characteristics of materials that are generated from them.
