December 2021: Our first in-person conference after almost two years - the 2021 Lake Louise Tandem MS Workshop. Congratulations to Elnaz Aliyari on winning this year's Marg Northcott Student Travel Award. Here she is, delivering her award lecture.


August 2021: Our group presented several talks at this year's (online) Trent Conference. Congratulations to Nastaran Tajoddin and Pablo Scrosati, on their CSMS-sponsored awards.


April 2021: Congratulations to Nastaran Tajoddin on winning the inaugural Hadis Hayatdavoudi Scholarship in Chemistry. This scholarship was established by Dr. Nasim Hadj-Bagheri in honour of Hadis Hayatdavoudi who was a PhD student in our Department. Hadis was killed in January 2020, along with 174 other passengers and crew, when Ukraine International Airlines Flight PS752 was shot down near Tehran by an Iranian missile.


September 2020: Congratulations to Victor Yin on passing his Ph.D. exam with flying colors (external examiner: Prof. Ann English).

December 2018: Christmas lunch - our group has grown since last year. Lots of new (and "old") science talent.

 


 

September 2018: Many reasons to celebrate! Both Haidy Metwally and Yiming Xiao pass their Ph.D. exams (external examiners: Philip Britz-McKibbin/McMaster and Scott Hopkins/Waterloo). Also, Lars was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada (FRSC).

January 2018: Lars is selected as recipient of the 2018 Ricardo Aroca Award (formerly the Maxxam Award) from the Canadian Society for Chemistry for "distinguished contributions to the field of analytical chemistry".

October 2011: Congratulations to Yan (Lucy) Pan, who defended her PhD thesis after less then four years in our lab, and with more than ten papers published. External examiner was Prof. Michael Siu from York University, Toronto.



September 2011: Congratulations to Elias Ahadi, who successfully defended his PhD thesis on Sept. 6. External examiner was Prof. Igor Kaltashov from the University of Massachusetts/Amherst.



September 2011: Our Synapt Mass Spectrometer is up and running!            





July/August 2011: Lars organized and chaired the Gordon Research Conference on Biological Molecules in the Gas Phase and in Solution, which was attended by more than 100 top-notch scientists from all over the world. June 2011:

May 2011: For the second time in a row, Brad Stocks  is selected as the recipient of the Nellie Farthing Fellowship, one of the most important awards that the Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry presents to especially deserving graduate students. Congratulations!!!

Congratulations to Dr. Jingxi Pan, on winning the 2011 Canadian Life Sciences Travel Award of the Canadian Society for Mass Spectrometry, in support of his presentation at this year's ASMS meeting in Denver.

In addition to the successful renewal of our Discovery Grant, we were awarded equipment funds (RTI 1), and a Discovery Accelerator Grant from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC). We also received an equipment grant from the UWO Academic Development Fund (ADF).

March 2006: We are delighted to announce that  Brian Boys is the winner of this year's  CSC Silver Medal, the 2006 McNabb Scholarship, the Varian Canada Prize for Analytical Chemistry, and an NSERC Canada Graduate Scholarship (CGS M). In addition, Brian's presentation placed third at the Southern Ontario Undergraduate Student Chemistry Conference (SOUSCC, Biochemistry Division) at York University.  Congratulations, Brian !!!


October 2005: Congratulations to Derek Wilson, on an excellent Ph.D. defense. Derek's external examiner was John Klassen from the University of Alberta. Derek will soon take up an NSERC post-doctoral fellowship in the group of Chris Dobson at the University of Cambridge (UK).

May 2005: Congratulations to Derek Wilson, on winning a best poster award for his presentation "Ultra-rapid Microfluidic Desalting of Protein Solutions for Electrospray Mass Spectrometry" at this year's Western Institute for Nanoscience (WINS) Conference.


March 2005: Congratulations to Derek Wilson, on winning an NSERC post-doctoral fellowship. Last year, Derek was awarded a Canada Graduate Scholarship, NSERC's top award for graduate students. Way to go, Derek !!!

March 2005: Our new CFI/OIT-funded Micromass Q-TOF Ultima is now up and running (resolution = 20,000!!).


September 2004: Congratulations to Doug Simmons on an excellent Ph.D. defense (external examiner: Dan Fabris). During his tenure in our lab, Doug held several stipends (NSERC PGS and OGS). He received an NSERC post-doctoral fellowship that he will spend at Cambridge University (UK) in the group of Carol Robinson.

April 2004: After a superb Ph.D. defense (external examiner: Max Deinzer), Sonya Clark has won the 2004 Collip medal for the most outstanding Ph.D. student from one of the Basic Science Programs. In addition, she was awarded the 2004 William Zaharia Award for the best Biochemistry Ph.D. student. Sonya will now spend her NSERC post-doctoral fellowship with Ben Berks at Oxford University in the UK. While she was in our lab, Sonya was supported by several stipends (NSERC PGS A, PGS B, and OGSST).
