Meditation – Contemplate on dhammas
 
1. Hindrances -Nirvana Pabba
 
 

To dwell perceiving that dhammas as just dhammas (not mine, not I, not self, but just as phenomena).   In this teaching individuals dwells perceiving the five hindrances (nirvana dhamma) as just the five hindrances.
Meditation form
This is about being mindful of the presence of the five hindrances.

  • Presence of sense of desire (kamachanda) in her/him. S/he also knows how the sense-desire which has not yet arisen comes to arise in the future.
  • Presence of ill-will (byapada) in her/him
  • Presence of  sloth and torpor in him
 
  • Presence of distraction and worry (uddhacca-kukkucca) in her/him.
  • Presence of doubt or wavering of the mind (vicikiccha).

S/he also knows the hindrances are discarded it will not arise in the future. S/he is firmly mindful of the fact that only dhammas exist (not a soul, a self or I). That mindfulness is just for gaining insight (vipassana) and mindfulness progressively. Being detached from craving and wrong views he dwells without clinging to anything in the world. Thus, in this way an individual dwells perceiving again and again the five hindrances as just the five hindrances.

 
   
 
2. Five Aggregates- Khandha Pabba
 
 


To dwell perceiving the five aggregates of clinging (upadanakkhandha) as just the five aggregates of clinging (not mine, not I, not self but just as phenomena).

Meditation form

Five aggregates of clinging is the focus of this form of meditation

  1. Corporeal body: the corporeal body (rupa)- this is the cause and the actual appearing of the corporeal body; this is the cause and the actual dissolution of the corporeal body.
  2. Feeling: feeling (vedana) this is the cause and the actual appearing of feeling; this is the cause and the actual dissolution of feeling.
  3. Perception: perception (sanna), the cause and the actual appearing of perception; this is the cause and the actual dissolution of perception.
  4. Mental formations: mental formations (sankhara); this is the cause and the actual appearing of mental formations; this is the cause and the actual dissolution of mental formations.
  5. Consciousness: her/his consciousness (vinnana); this is the cause and the actual appearing of consciousness; this is the cause and the actual dissolution of consciousness."
 
  • Thus s/he dwells perceiving dhammas as just dhammas (not mine, not I, not self, but just as phenomena) in her/himself
  • or he dwells perceiving dhammas as just dhammas in others. 
  • An individual is firmly mindful of the fact that only dhammas exist (not a soul, a self or I).
  • That mindfulness is just for gaining insight (vipassana) and mindfulness progressively.
  • Being detached from craving and wrong views he dwells without clinging to anything in the world.
  • Thus, in this way an individual dwells perceiving again and again the five aggregates of clinging as just the five aggregates of clinging.
