Professor Laurence de Looze has been a member of the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures at the University of Western Ontario since 1994. Before he came to UWO, he was a professor of French at Boston University and of Comparative Literature at Harvard University. He teaches a wide range of courses, both large and small, in the Modern Languages and French Departments. His research also ranges widely with much of it in French, Spanish, and Icelandic culture and literature. Professor de Looze won the Edward G. Pleva Award for Excellence in Teaching in 2001 and a Faculty Scholar Award in 2009.
Professor de Looze is a Fellow in the School for Advanced Studies in the Arts and Humanities (SASAH).
In addition to Professor de Looze's research publications, he publishes fiction and plays jazz piano.
