Our overall research goal is to improve T cell-mediated immunity to viral pathogens and cancer. We also strive to understand and prevent harmful T cell responses in autoimmunity, graft rejection and toxic shock. Our investigations are particularly focused on two subsets of T cells, namely CD8+ T cells and invariant natural killer T (iNKT) cells that fulfill important functions in health and disease. The knowledge gained through our research is expected to reveal some of the secrets of the immune system and may lead to the invention of novel immunotherapeutic agents for a wide range of diseases.
