The Emerging Leader Initiative is a paid campus ministry position for a 3rd or 4th year undergraduate student. It seeks to develop students' missional gifts, create mentoring relationships which model and multiply holistic leaders, extend the current scope of ministry on campus, and provide leadership experience for students contemplating future ministry. This initiative seeks to identify, inspire, and equip an emerging generation of Christian leaders.

This Inititive is similar to a "work-study" bursary. Students accepted into this position will be involved in ministry approximately 6 hours per week during the regular academic semester and paid on an hourly basis up to a maximum of $1,000/semester. These 6 hours/week will be spent in one-on-one mentoring meetings with the campus minister and independently leading a ministry of their interest. An individual student is eligible for this Initiative up to a maximum total of 4 semesters.

The Application Procedure

  1. Interested students should submit a brief letter of application to the Campus Minister 3 months prior to the beginning of the semester for which they are applying (see #3 below). This letter of application should include 1) reasons why the student is interested in this Initiative (including gifts/talents they have which they believe will be key in their experience being a positive one), 2) what the student hopes to accomplish during the semester (in terms of both ministry and personal goals), and 3) an outline of the area of ministry the student is interested in independently promoting and facilitating which would enhance and extend the current scope of the campus ministry.
  2. Students are then interviewed in order to follow-up on their application letter through more detailed, in-depth conversation. All applicants will be notified as to the results of the application process.
  3. The application deadline for the Fall Semester is June 1. The application deadline for the Winter Semester is October 1. Students interested in applying for the summer should contact the campus minister directly to discuss the feasability of this option.
  4. Students accepted into the Initiative will receive regular, formal and informal feedback and evaluation. Students will also be required to submit to the campus minister, within 1 month of the end of their Initiative semester, a brief evaluation of their experience as well as a short reflection on how the student's missional skills were developed and employed over the course of the term.
