Christian
Reformed Campus Ministry has been at Western since the 1960's. We are a
welcoming and accepting community of students, faculty, and staff
seeking to bear witness to Jesus Christ on campus. We seek to model a
confident life of faith in an academic context, firmly believing that
faith and learning are compatible.
Our confidence comes from our conviction that Jesus Christ is Lord over every aspect of reality. In fact, in the words of a former Prime Minister of the Netherlands: "There is not one square inch of Creation of which Jesus Christ does not say, 'This is Mine!'"
During various periods of our time here, the Campus Ministry has evolved in its activities, approaches, and emphases. But bearing witness to Jesus Christ to the people and the institution of the University has been a common theme. We believe that life on campus should immerse one in a sea of ideas and their interconnections. We seek to break down the compartmentalized approach to life and learning by exploring what literature has to do with ethics; biology with psychology; every field and discipline with faith and life experience.
Our current campus minister is Mike Wagenman. He has prior experience working with IVCF in the US and has been a parish pastor in upstate New York, western Minnesota, and most recently just outside London in St. Thomas, Ontario. He holds degrees from the University of Minnesota and from Calvin Theological Seminary in Michigan.
