Summer 2006
For those students and young adults in the London area over the summer months, these activities aim ot provide a place of hospitality and discipleship. Young Adult Bible Study This
summer, we plan to gather to study a Christian perspective on human
sexuality. We will meet Wednesdays from 6.30-8.30pm. The first half
hour of
our time together will be enjoying dessert and socializing together.
Then, from about 7:00-8:30pm will be our time looking at various
aspects of this contemporary issue. The last week of each month will be
a social activity instead of a study time. Feel free to send an email if you'd like a copy of the schedule.
Regional Student and Young Adult Retreat "WHERE
THE RUBBER HITS THE ROAD" is ultimately the spot where direction
&
intention collide. In the Christian faith, we often say we believe but
our faith sometimes has little to do with our daily decisions and
choices. That is what this weekend is about: Steering the road of life
and of faith to where the rubber hits the road. April 28-30 at Pearce
Williams Retreat Centre. The speaker will be Ace Clarke, a member of an
outlaw biker gang for 17 years, transformed the night he gave his life
to Christ. He is a Pastor in Hamilton at The Joshua Center, an area
known for its dealers and high crime. Cost is $75. Registration and
further information is available in this brochure.
wrightremixed: N. T. Wright Goes Clubbing in Toronto Internationally
renowned biblical scholar N.T. (Tom) Wright will be clubbing in Toronto
on May 9. That's right, the Bishop of Durham (affectionately dubbed in
some circles, "the Bish") is going to make a rare appearance at the
Revival Night Club (got to love that name) together with dj teknostep,
hip-hop MC illSeer, as well as local singer-songwriters Julia Churchill
and Alison Hari-Singh. In the midst of the music Brian Walsh will
interview the Bish and then there'll be lots of time for question and
answer with the crowd. For the full details, registration, costs, etc.
check out www.empireremixed.com. But move fast, our capacity is limited
to 250.
Christian Reformed Campus Ministry Annual North American Conference May
17-19 at the University of Illinois, Chapmaign-Urbana. This year's
theme is "The Mindful Pastor: Pastoring a University Parish" and

the Christian Reformed Campus Minister's Association. Check back for

"Embedding Christian Values in Science and Technology" The
61st annual meeting of the American Scientific Affiliation will take
place at Calvin College, Grand Rapids, Michigan, July 28-31. This will
be a top-notch conference on the relationships between Christian values
and science and technology, with speakers such as US Congresman Vern
Ehlers, bioethecist Hessel Bouma III, Celia Deane-Drummond from the
University of Chester in the U.K., Rudolf Jaenisch of the Whitehead
Institute at MIT, Karen Lebacqz of the Yale University
Interdisciplinary Center for Bioethics, and Francis Collins, director
of the National Human Genome Research Institute at the National
Institutes of Health. The mix of speakers and workshops will touch on
some of society's hot-button issues vis a vis the intersections of
faith and science. "We'll be looking at everything from the ethics of
human stem cells to evolution and how life began to the proper role of
biotechnology in growing our food," says Bouma, whose expertise is
medical ethics. "These are the issues that are the fodder for the
nation's biggest and best newspapers, for the country's broadcast
networks and for a growing number of blogs and websites that examine
science and religion."

Practicing Resurrection Camping Trip and Conference Practicing
Resurrection
is a conference for city and country folks of all ages who are
interested in exploring the outdoors, farm life and faith practice in a
rural setting in central Ontario, about two hours northeast of
Toronto. Throughout the week, both formal and informal
opportunities for gathering will affirm our desire for rest and
refreshment, while challenging us to new ways of thinking about living
into our deepest values in all areas of life.
The entire conference will span from August 7-13; however, that time will be divided into two parts. Monday through Thursday will be a time for people to gather informally, enjoying the local area in whatever way they see fit, from swimming and canoeing to helping with garden and farm chores. The formal conference will commence on Friday morning and end with a worship service on Sunday morning. This second portion of the week will involve workshops, keynote addresses, kids' activities and a common Saturday evening meal. The keynote address will be delivered by Norman Wirzba, an author and professor who focuses on the connection between faith and agrarianism. Workshops will cover such topics as food, housing, industrial design, peacemaking, sustainable agriculture, economics, canning, the arts, eco-tourism and more. Since this is a first conference for both Russet House Farm and *culture is not optional, registration is limited to 100 participants, so do some thinking and plan to join us for an invigorating week! |
