London Campus Ministry Mission and Vision

Welcome to the website of the Christian Reformed Churches' London Campus Ministry! This is a ministry designed to serve students in the post-secondary institutions of London, Ontario. However, whether you're a post-grad student at UWO, in a community college program at Fanshawe, apprenticing in a trade in South Western Ontario, or taking a break from school right now, there is a place for you under our umbrella. Whether you're a student, or would like to partner with us in ministry, we'd like to hear from you.

A number of Christian Reformed pastors have served London Campus ministry in the past 30 years, including John Van Til, Jack Westerhof, Peter Slofstra, Ken Boonstra, and Michael Veenema. During Michael's ministry, the opportunity arose to hire some part-time staff at both Fanshawe College and Western through Classis Chatham and Christian Reformed Home Missions' Emerging Leader's program.

Mike Veenema departured in 2004 to accept a call to serve with IVCF in Nova Scotia and Newfoundland. Today, Mike Wagenman serves full-time at Western and Grace Miedema serves part-time at Fanshawe.

About

Christian Reformed Campus Ministry in London Ontario began at University of Western Ontario in 1970. It is part of the Christian Reformed Campus Ministry Association, (now part of CR Home Missions) which has been active on campuses in North America since 1940. There is presently a CRCM presence on 36 campuses in the US and Canada. In London, the ministry is now active at Fanshawe College as well as at UWO. We work together with other Christian ministries on the campuses and have a formal and integral relationship with InterVarsity Christian Fellowship. If you would like to partner with us please contact us.

Vision statement

In partnership with other Christians we of London Campus Ministry are passionately engaged in dialogue with and service to members of London's post-secondary education community for the purpose of: bringing the good news of the kingdom ushered in by Jesus Christ, pointing to God's creative wisdom and faithfulness to his creation in his plan to restore and rebuild his broken world, bringing God's healing embracing love and grace into the academic setting. In the context of these predominantly secular academic institutions, we will manifest and cultivate humble service, integrity, intellectual honesty and rigour.

Purpose

London Campus Ministry carries out its work for the purpose of sharing God's redemptive plan in Jesus Christ with the students and faculty and collective body of scholarship. In sharing God's redemptive plan, we will be intentional about relationship building in the following ways:

  • Pastoral care
    • Caring holistically for the well being of students, and
    • Equipping them for lifelong service to Christ.
  • Community development
    • Building relationships among various Christian groups already on campus and inviting Christian Reformed students and non-Christian friends into a community of friendship and support,
    • Building committed relationships between students, the CRC, or local churches to relate personal faith to the larger Christian body, and
    • Building professional relationships within the academic institution to give the Christian academic voice expression within the secular culture.
  • Intellectual engagement
    • Equipping students and faculty to think well about their faith and to encourage the integration with learning in order to make every thought captive for Christ.
  • Culture relevance
    • Celebrating God's creative and renewing grace within the campus culture while discerning and engaging the spirit and mind of the prevailing cultures.
