  • Mahdi's paper entitled "Electrogenerated chemiluminescence of monodispersed Au144(SC2H4Ph)60 clusters" is accepted for publication in a special issue of Organometallics.

May 2014

  • Max Weissman and Praveen Grunawardene join the group as undergraduate research scholars. (No Praveen is not sleeping, he is thinking about the next column)


  • Paper entitled "Tessellated gold nanostructures from Au144(SCH2CH2Ph)60 molecular precursors and their use in organic solar cell enhancement" with Reg Bauld and Mahdi Hesari, in a collaboration with Giovanni Fanchini is accepted into the RSC journal Nanoscale!

      • Filipe DeSouza is awarded a NSERC-USRA and will join the group this summer.

      • Happy New Year!  The year is shaping up to be a banner year in the group- three papers already submitted and it is only January 9.
      • Mahdi's paper- a collaboration with Arash Akbari-Sharbaf and his supervisor Giovanni Fanchini has appeared in the Journal of Chemical Physicsn 2013, 138, 024305.
      • Former graduate student Hossein Ismaili is now engaged to former RISE student Kiana Lahring.  Congratulations you two!  Another benefit of student exchanges.
      • Dr. Sung Ju Cho has signed on for a post-doctoral fellowship in a joint venture between our group and the Ragogna group.

      • Dr. Hossein Ismaili received the 2012 Paul De Mayo Award for best PhD thesis!  He is now a Vision 2020 PDF at University of Ottawa.

      • Zachary Mossman joins the group as an Undergraduate Thesis Student.  John Roman also joins the group as part of a joint project with Prof. Oleg Semeninkhin.
      • Hossein Ismaili will be receiving the 2012 Paul De Mayo Award for his Ph.D. thesis on September 27.
      • MSW is the Keynote presenter at the Graduate Student Conference on Teaching.

      • Pierga's manuscript on an Improved Methodolgy for Water Solube Maleimide AuNP is published in Langmuir (see publications)
      • Sara's, Brett's and Hossein's work in a collaboration with P. Ragogna (and J. Dube) was published almost the same time in Langmuir (see publications)

      • Eleanor (Ragogona) and Pierga's paper is publisged in Inorg. Chem.  it was one of the top 10 most read papers in this journal this summer!
      • MSW was awarded a 2012 Pleva Award for Excellence in Teaching at the June Convocation.
      • Melanie Lui (Chem 4491E student) was awarded a NSERC PGS award and is off to the University of Alberta!  Her work is being summarized in a manuscript. Watch this spot for updates.

      • Hossein successfully defended his PhD Thesis. Congratulations Dr. Ismaili. He will join the Scaiano group as a pdf in November.
      • Kristen and Mahboubeh successfully defended their M.Sc. theses. Congratulations! Both begin PhD studies in the fall. Mahboubeh with Ragogna and Kristen is off to France.
