I am a philosopher of science with a PhD in History and Philosophy of Science from the University of Pittsburgh (1984).  My dissertation was called Matter and Modality: Studies in Seventeenth and Eighteenth Century Natural Philosophy.

My research interests are in general philosophy of science and in feminist analyses of science (as well as in science and values, more generally).

At Western, in addition to being a member of the Philosophy Department, I am also a member of the Rotman Institute of Philosophy and an affiliate member of the Department of Women’s Studies and Feminist Research.

Much of my academic career has involved significant administrative duties.  I served as Founding Director of the Centre for Women’s Studies and Feminist Research (which is now a PhD-granting Department), as Chair of the Department of Philosophy, and as Dean of Arts and Humanities (for two terms).

I was also instrumental in founding the Rotman Institute of Philosophy.
