BOARDWORK:

 

-         Leave Operating System on one Partition, works well if backing-up

-         FAT 32/NTFS File Systems

-         Path = Search = 0 (not set-up yet), look for FDISK on current directory, see

Path to locate file.

 

C:\COMMAND <DIR> Command.com   93,880 free

Path C:\command  (this sets the command path to C, must use the Path command.

 

Autoexec.bat – used as shortcuts when booting up a system.

 

FDISK (Y) – block size, format FAT32 for WIN98

(NT4 also does not read FAT 32)

 

            Create Extended DOS Partition:

                       

                        25%

                        50%

                        25% lost

 

            Logical Drive = 2047 (C/D/E)

                        D = 2047

                        E = 1953

                 Total  = 4000 MB

 

            NOTE:  D and E must be formatted for use.  (for example: C:\>format^d:

 

            Volume Label for Dos is MS-DOS_6  (be careful of the syntax)

Partition the Hard Drive with Drive C = 5,000MB

                                                          Drive D = Rest

 

1.  C:\>Fdisk C                     (Y)     5GB

8.      Enter Key

9.      Are you sure Y

10.  5000 GB (N to all)

 

NEXT   Reboot to put new formatting onto:

           

                        A:\Format^c:^/s

                   

                        A:\cd^command>format^c:^/s

 

                        Drive C – Make it Active Status

 

NEXT,  Reboot will come up with C:\> (take out diskette)

EXERCISE

 

C Drive is the Primary Drive with 500 MB (FAT 16)  Active

D Drive has all the available space

 

 

 

RESULT:

 

Boot to C, FDISK settings come up missing operation system.

Format:   Reboot Diskette to A:

 

               Cd^command

               Format^c:/s

               Y press enter key

                Test it out, reboot to C

CHKDSK

 

This command displays the status of the Hard Drive, and the |more extension, breaks up the

display on the screen for easy viewing.

 

A:\>command>chkdsk^D:^/v|more

 

C:\>Dir/?   Checks the disk

C:\>Dir/?>dir.hlp  creates a file with the extension of .hlp

A:\>type^dir.hlp    (shows the .hlp file on the screen)   You can print this file later if you want

 

A:\>format^/?>format.hlp  (woops bad command or file name)

A:\>command>format^/?>D:\data\format.hlp
