Boot.ini Used when Windows NT Server
This is a read-only system file, used to
build the Boot Loader Operating System
Selection menu on Intel X86-based
computers.
Ntdlr This hidden, read-only system file loads
the operating system, and must be on the
Boot.ini
file.
Ntdetect.com This is a hidden, read-only system file used
to examine the hardware available and to
build a hardware list. This information is
passed back to Ntldr to be added to the
registry later in the boot process. This file
must be present on the Boot.ini file.
Bootsect.dos This is a hidden system file loaded by Ntldr
if another operating system, such as
Microsoft MS-DOS, WIN98 or O/S/2 version
is used instead of Window NT. This file must
be on the Boot.ini file since we are also
running concurrently WIN98.
Ntbootdd.sys A disk where the BIOS is disabled,
Ntboodd.sys. BIOS trans for NT
the ARC path will start with SCSI, SCSI goes
with Disk. This hidden, read-on, system file
if only on systems that boot from a SCSI hard
disk and on which the BIOS on the SCSI
adapter is disabled.
Winnt.adm Any File with the .adm extension is a
Template file. Winnt.adm is a template
file that is used by System Policy Editor.
Common.adm This is another Template file used by
The System Policy Editor.
Config.pol This file is used with Ntconfig.pol, with
the System Policy Editor.
Ntconfig.pol The policy file is saved as Ntconfig.pol in
the Netlogon share on the PDC. Ntconfig.pol
Is replicated to the BDCs in the domain.
.pol All policies are saved in a file with the
extension of .pol.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER When the system policy Editor is used in
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE Registry mode, changes are made by selecting
or clearing specific registry options in
Local computer or Local user. Changes made
to the Local Computer or Local User policy
are updated in these registry keys when the
settings are saved and the registry is closed.
the user does not need to log off or restart
the computer to see the changes.
Pagefile.sys A partition containing an open file cannot be
deleted. This includes the partition that
contains Pagefile.sys, the Windows NT
paging file.
Osloader RISC
Winnt32.exe Creates $win_nt$~ls p68 temp. This file is
Used to install or upgrade Windows NT on a
Computer already running Windows NT.
Winnt.exe This executable file is uses for Windows
NT Workstation and Windows NT Server.
Poledit.exe A system policy is created with an adminis-
trative tool, system policy editor or Poledit.exe.
Poledit.exe is only on Windows NT Server.
Systemroot\system32\Rep1\Import\Scripts\Ntconfig.pol
Both Ntconfig.pol and Config.pol must be
stored on the PDC in the above folders.
By default this folder is shared in Netlogon.

Ntfs.sys The I/O Manager can store files locally
on a hard disk, using a file system driver
such as Ntfs.sys, or on a remote networked
computer using the Redirector file system

Convert^d:^/fs:NTFS The command you use in DOS to convert
A partition to NTFS.
Rdisk The command you use at DOS to create a
Repair disk as part of the Emergency Kit.
Rdisk^/s Add security information to the repair disk.
Winnt32^/ox Creates the three diskettes needed for the
repair process.
Ipconfig^/all View TCP/IP configuration for address/
default gateway and tells when the lease
expires.
Ipconfig^/release Type this in at the Command Prompt, and

Ipconfi^/renew Renews IP leased addresses from the current
time for 24 hours.
Net^use Type at Command Prompt, you will see the
current NetBIOS name which is also listed
in the registry.
Net^view Similar to Net use command, net view lists
all the current users.
Format^d:^/fs:FAT Disk Administrator formats the d: drive with
FAT.
Format^d:^/fs:NTFS Disk Administrator formats the d: drive with
NTFS file system.
