Current research projects

HERE is a map of bright spots on Phobos, prepared by Sean Berry and me in 1998. Red is bright. The intention is only to show the locations of bright markings, not their actual albedo. Registration is not yet very good, but better- registered sections are revealing interesting information on surface processes.

HERE are three views of a reprojected photomosaic of the asteroid 253 Mathilde, imaged by the NEAR spacecraft in 1997. The black section shows the estimated shape of the unimaged portion (shape by Peter Thomas, Cornell University). The map projection is Morphographic Conformal, similar to Stereographic, which means that the outer edge of each map is enlarged relative to the centre of the map.

HERE is a cylindrical projection mosaic of Mariner 9 images of Deimos made by John Pfau and me in 1999. John also did a lot of the work on the Mathilde mosaic.
