Isotope Geochemistry
Meteoritics
Igneous Petrology

Current Research Activities

  • Oxygen Isotopic Composition of the Tagish Lake Carbonaceous Chondrite:
    • Laser Fluorination of anhydrous phases (olivine and pyroxene concentrates) with the purpose of delineating a Tagish Lake Anhydrous component mixing line
    • Laser fluorination of matrix phases assemblages (serpentine, saponite, magnetite)
  • Fabrication of  a sample transfer airlock to allow for analysis of "reactive" phases using conventional laser fluorination techniques
  • Modal Analysis and Geochemistry of Granitic Inclusions in the Vishnupur and Adzhi-Bogdo Type LL6 Chondrite.
  • The origin and petrogenesis of Adirondack fayalite augite syenites; a study of source material and recycling of granitic rocks late in the Grenville Orogeny.

Publications

  • Oxygen Isotope Variability of the Tagish Lake Meteorite, American Geophysical Union Fall meeting 2004.

  • Geology and Geochemistry of the Ausable and Wanakena Fayalite-Augite Syenites, Adirondack Mts., New York; GSA Abstracts with Programs Vol. 36, No. 2, March 2004 (GSA abstract).

Current Intellectual Interests

  • Mass-independent fractionation of sulfur isotopes; signatures in Archaean sedimentary rocks, volcanic horizons, and diamonds!!!
    • Specifically, the mechanisms of preservation of such signatures in the Archaean ocean, and flux of MI signatures into hydrothermal and diagenetic fluids.
  • Mass-independent fractionation of oxygen isotopes in the modern atmosphere and preservation in terrestrial reservoirs

Past Research

  • Geology and Geochemistry of Adirondack Fayalite Augite Syenites (BSc. Thesis).
  • Cerium oxidation state in apatites from the Vishnupur and Adzhi-Bogdo Meteorites.
  • FTIR Quantification studies of clay-quartz and clay-nepheline syenite mixtures.
