Erika Simpson is an Associate Professor of International Relations in
the Political Science Department at the University of Western Ontario
in London, Canada. She is available to the media to comment on
international security problems and solutions; nuclear proliferation and
nuclear disarmament; Canadian defense and foreign policy; NATO and
nuclear weapons; and peacekeeping in Afghanistan and Libya.
She is the author of many publications on NATO, nuclear
disarmament and proliferation, and Canadian defence policy. Her first
book NATO and the Bomb was published by McGill-Queen's University Press
in 2001.
Professor Simpson is the vice-chair of the Canadian Pugwash Group, the national affiliate of the Pugwash International Conferences on Science and Global Affairs.
Formerly, she was a Visiting Fellow at UBC's Liu Institute; an Alton
Jones Fellow; a CIIPS Senior Barton Fellow; a DND Security and Defence
Forum Fellow; and a NATO Fellow. Erika has a cell phone on her at all times. Her cell phone number is available on her office voicemail.
TV and Radio
Professor Simpson was interviewed by CBC radio for background
information on NATO's approach to the uprising in Libya and Colonel
Khadafy's former nuclear arsenal on March 8, 2011.
Professor Simpson was interviewed at UN headquarters in New York
City by many television outlets, including Al-Jazeera Television (NYC
and Washington outlets), Iranian national radio, and the NPT Television
show during the final days of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Review Conference in late May, 2010.

Professor Simpson was interviewed on CTV News to explain why the member nations of NATO had to show solidarity now with U.S. President Barack Obama by sending 7,000 additional troops to Afghanistan. December 4, 2009. News clip.

As a result of many aspects of Canada's NATO operation in Afghanistan between 2006-present, Simpson's televised and radio commentaries have been featured on CTV News, CBC TV Newsworld, CBC Radio Ontario, The New PL's Inquiry Program,
CBC Canada Votes, The John Wilson show AM 980, The Scott Kitching show,
CJBC 1290 and Stirling Fox News" Fox Radio.
As a result of the September 11 attack on America, her spoken commentaries were in Asahi Shimbun (Japanese newspaper), Canoe Online News, Hamilton Spectator, London Free Press, New PL's Inquiry Program, and 6X News.
As a result of the ongoing crisis in Kosovo, commentaries were aired on CBC Newsworld TV, CFPL Radio's Hot Talk program, CFOS Radio, 6X Radio News and the WIC Radio Network in western Canada.
