Legal
Value
Definition:
The worth of records for the conduct of current or future legal business and/or as legal evidence thereof.
Example:
- Because of its chronological completeness (from 1670 onwards), the HBC Archives not only has high evidential value, but high legal value. The HBC was more than just a fur trade company or a retail outlet - it was, above all, a large property owner and as such has complete property records. Moreover the HBC has thorough records regarding its relations with aboriginals, thus providing high legal value regarding native land claims.
