Deposit
Definition:
In archival lingo, the term
'deposit' refers to the placing of documents in the custody of an archive
without transfer of legal title. While this practice is common in corporate
or closed systems where the archivist manages the records deemed archival in
consultation with the creator, it is less desirable in a public archives setting
when dealing with the acquisition of private records [e.g. University Women's Club records at
London Room].
