Light
-
Most harmful light wavelength is ultraviolet
(natural sunlight and fluorescent lighting)
- example:
17th
century embroidery
- Be mindful that light produces heat
- Cheap solutions: low lighting, curtains or blinds
- More expensive solutions: UV-free fluorescent tubes;
UV filtering sleeves; UV filter film; motion detector light trigger;
(New!) LEDs do
not emit UV or
IR radiation and the light does
not generate heat - but bulbs are very expensive (average lifetime is 25,000
hours)
- Recommended light level is less than 100 lux (can
use single reflex camera light meters to measure light in an area)
- Beware of photocopiers: Make a single reference copy
for frequently accessed materials.
