Temperature
-
in discipline of chemistry, accepted maxim is
that for every 10C increase in temperature, the rate
of chemical reaction doubles. For
paper, however, every 5C increase will double the rate of deterioration.
- The recommended temperature for a general collection
that is paper dominant is between 18C and 20C (or 65 to 68F).
If RH is controlled (40 to 45%), these temperature levels (in a
general sense) will be to the benefit of all materials.
- Temperatures of over 25C (77 F) are considered
unacceptable for any archival material.
