Sous-fonds & Subgroup
- Definition: Subgroup is the American usage for a body of related records within a Record Group or (more rarely) a Manuscript Group. Sous-fonds is the Canadian usage for the same.
- Both subgroups and sous-fonds often correspond to expansive high-level and self-governing administrative subdivisions in the originating agency [ie. Power Corp. and Investors Group]
- Helpful in reflecting the hierarchical structure (if one exists). They are rarely used or encountered.
Example A: A Corporate Fonds
Example B: A Manuscript Fonds
