Teaching Philosophy
Fieldwork education
allows the unique opportunity to work with students to facilitate the integration
and consolidation of theory and practice. Fieldwork placements provide
an avenue for the student to develop the "art"
of practice.
My teaching philosophy is to work with students as emerging professionals in an adult learning model and to provide opportunities to enable learning and growth through fieldwork courses. Collaboration and a strong liaison with the on-site educator is required for fieldwork courses that are congruent with the philosophy of the curriculum and the students' learning needs.

As health care changes and evolves, the creative exploration of learning opportunities has become an important focus within my teaching philosophy. Exploring with community agencies and with therapists new directions and how students can gain field experience in these new roles has been a priority for me.
Finally,
within my philosophy is the hope to inspire and to be inspired. Inspiration
can be given by listening to someone express an interest or the desire to explore
or follow an idea. If I can in some way facilitate the pursuance of a
goal or idea then I feel I have been successful in my "teaching".
In a reciprocal fashion, I have also been inspired by students and colleagues
to follow an idea or to continue explorations within my teaching area and this
has served to motivate me over the years.
Through a process of mutual respect, working with students in both class seminars and individually, my teaching philosophy is to encourage self-direction and professional growth with the ongoing desire to be inspired and to inspire students and colleagues to pursue ideas and further learning.
