Hey everyone! My name is Ayush, and I'm one of the undergraduate honours thesis students who will be a part of the Sinclair lab team for the 2020-21 academic year! Coming from the recently established Western Integrated Science program, I'm interested in applying the various genres of science together, specifically in conjunction with my field of specialization – Biology . Fortunately, the Sinclair Lab's involvement in using bioinformatics to better understand the gene expression patterns of insects has provided me an excellent opportunity to do exactly that, combining computer science, data science, and genetics together to find some hopefully illuminating discoveries on the underlying mechanisms of insect physiology! I will be particularly focusing on surveying and analyzing RNA-Seq data to uncover previously unknown splice variants and promoter regions involved in insect temperature tolerance. I'm incredibly excited to have the chance to work with Professor Sinclair and be a part of the amazing crew that is the Insect Low Temperature Biology Lab!
