Introduction
The four research initiatives, No Fixed Address version 2 (NFA v.2), its expansion into medical wards (NFA v.2x), the youth-focused Preventing Discharge to No Fixed Address (NFA-Y), and The Health, Housing and Income (H2I) projects represent a concerted effort to address homelessness among vulnerable populations discharged from hospitals in London, Ontario.
Spearheaded by Cheryl Forchuk and the Lawson Health Research Institute and supported by key community and funding partners, these programs are united by the critical objective of ensuring stable housing for individuals at risk. By integrating housing and financial support services directly within hospital settings, these projects aim to break the cycle of homelessness and improve health outcomes for individuals with mental health issues, medical conditions, and youth in transition.
Through early intervention and sustained support, these research programs promise to forge a pathway toward more effective, compassionate, and integrated healthcare and social service systems, potentially serving as models for broader implementation and policy development.
