Alexander’s accession and first years

Please bring the website notes from last Thursday’s lecture, since we did not cover everything on them. We shall begin with a careful examination of the “plot possibilities” surrounding the death of Philip and then move to Alexander’s acquisition of, and fight for, power both in Macedonia and in the League of Corinth. His campaign in the areas to the west and north of Macedonia in 335 will be dealt with summarily; however, his attack on Thebes and its destruction will be analysed in more detail.
