for every 10C increase in temperature, the rate
of chemical reaction doubles
- for paper, the rate of deterioration doubles
for every 5C rise
- The recommended temperature for a general collection
that is paper dominant is between 18C and 20C (or 65 to 68F).
If RH is controlled (40 to 45%), these temperature levels (in a
general sense) will be to the benefit of all materials
- Temperatures of over 25C (77 F) are considered
unacceptable for any archival material
- 1945!
