Question 5: Is the ability to sprint or burst swim after a bout of exhaustive exercise dependent upon complete metabolic recovery of the muscle?

We have shown that the time period required for metabolic recovery from exhaustive exercise can be shortened from 8-12 h to 2-4 h. What we don't know, however, is if this enhanced rate of recovery is accompanied by an enhanced recovery of sprint or burst exercise performance. Neither do we have a clear understanding of whether or not muscle metabolic status influences sprint or burst performance. Futhermore, we know very little about how sprint performance, muscle metabolic status, feeding and developemental stage interact. Clearly, a project with lots of possibilities.
