Biography:

 

 

Michelle graduated as a Registered Nurse from Canadore College in North Bay, Ontario in 1985.  She has been a nurse in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at St. Joseph’s Health Care London for the past 23 years.  In 2000, she became an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) and in 2002 certified in Neonatal Oral Motor Assessment.  The Lactation Consultant Team accomplishes approximately 300 to 400 mother/infant assessments a month.  Michelle provides lactation education for the OB/GYN physician clerkship Seminar Series, NICU resident orientation, NICU, Mother/Baby and Family Birthing Centre nursing orientation.  Ongoing education is provided for new staff as well as the veterans. 

 

From 2000 to 2008 Michelle chaired the Southwestern Ontario Lactation Consultant Group and currently is the co-chair.  She participates on the NICU and Mother/Baby Practice Councils.  Michelle has been involved in a Domperidone randomized controlled study as well as a research project related to community support for preterm infants in Southwestern Ontario after discharge.  Michelle is truly grateful to the NICU mothers and their infants who have allowed her to share in their care.
