Nutrition care is provided based on the assessment of nutrition status and development of a nutrition care plan based on individual need. Cindy also provides instruction to infants’ families regarding specialized nutrition care plans either during the hospitalization and/or at discharge. She identifies community resources for families and makes referrals for continuity of nutrition care after discharge. Cindy also participates in neonatal teaching rounds, research rounds and interdisciplinary patient care rounds, acts as nutrition resource to the team and conducts professional education for staff and students regarding neonatal nutrition. Finally, Cindy is a member of the NICU Care Council and NICU Redesign Task Team.
Cindy has been most recently involved in the Post Discharge Nutrition Clinic for Breastfeeding Premature Infants Research Project. Along with the Lactation Consultant and Neonatologist, she will be providing nutrition follow-up to all breastfeeding preterm infants born <35 weeks gestational age in the London and Middlesex area after discharge. The aim of the study is to improve the breastfeeding duration rates of these infants through close follow-up and expert advice from a multidisciplinary team. |
