Great Lakes - Saint Lawrence Mycology Workshop 2012

28-29 April 2012

Hosted by
Western University, Canada
Department of Biology

We are delighted to host the 2012 Great Lakes - Saint Lawrence Mycology Workshop. The Great Lakes - Saint Lawrence Mycology Workshop is a meeting of graduate and undergraduate students, faculty, and other mycological researchers from Ontario and region that has been held annually since 1981. It is an excellent forum for students to give their first conference talk, since the audience is small (50-125 registrants over the last few years), friendly, and all of the same general discipline (mycology - the study of fungi). The meetings last from noon Saturday until noon Sunday, with 15 minute talks in the afternoon and morning sessions and a Saturday evening banquet followed by a plenary lecture. We hosted this meeting here at Western last in 2002, and before that in 1994 (organized by Jim Traquair and Andre Lachance).
The meetings will be held in Western's Middlesex College Building (easily recognized by the tall pointed tower). Parking for registrants will be available at the rear of the building, off Perth Drive.

  • Form-fillable pdf pre-registration form available here. If you do not have the full Adobe Acrobat you may find you can not save your changes in the pdf form. If so, please click here for a registration form in Word.
  • Send no money now, but please register as soon as possible so that I can begin to fill out the speaker schedule and other parts of the program.

Accommodation

  • As usual, the meetings will run from about noon on Saturday until noon on Sunday, so most of you may be able to come down on the Saturday morning and be home in your own bed by Sunday evening. If you come from further afield - please do! - then staying Friday and Saturday nights may be your best option. Note that accommodation is separate from meeting registration, and up to you all.

I have been asked to warn you that this weekend is the one when many parents of Western undergraduates will be in town to collect their sons or daughters, so accommodations may fill up quickly. Please do not get caught - our basement is not large enough for everyone!

Foray

Yes - we will have a brief morning foray for those of you who will be coming in to London Friday night. It may be just a walk along Medway Creek, but you will be led in this walk by Greg Thorn and our plenary speaker Hal Burdsall, Jr. Meet at 9:00 am at the bridge over Medway Creek just south of Windermere Road on Glenmore Drive (one block west of Western Road; this is opposite the entrance to Western's Research Park and Windermere Manor). We will take a leisurely walk and arrive back at the registration area in time to get a bite to eat before the meetings. Map coming soon.
