509 Research Methods In Family Medicine (1.0 credit)
This course deals with research principles and methodologies relevant to family medicine. Five types of epidemiological studies are reviewed: descriptive, cross-sectional, experimental, cohort, and case control. Four qualitative methodologies are explored: grounded theory method, biographical method, ethnography, and phenomenology. In each approach, the following details are covered: posing the research question, sampling, data collection methods, and analysis. Studies relevant to family practice are used as examples.
