Postdoctoral Fellowship Positions in the Valvano Lab
The Valvano lab has openings for individuals interested in pursuing postdoctoral training. The candidates will join a vibrant, world-class team engaged engaged in interdisciplinary studies on microbial pathogenesis using molecular biology, structural, biochemistry, and cell biology approaches. Examples of areas of interest in the lab are:
(a) elucidation of the structure and function of membrane proteins that are predicted to form a "translocation" complex for lipid-linked O antigen export across the plasma membrane of Gram-negative bacteria using Escherichia coli, Salmonella sp., Shigella sp., and Burkholderia as model systems.
(b) elucidation of the mechanisms underlying host-bacteria interactions in macrophages and epithelial cells using the Burkholderia cepacia complex as a model system for opportunistic pathogens.
Our research programs provide an excellent environment for learning and discovery in cutting edge research areas (membrane biochemistry and structure/function, membrane lipids, outer membrane proteins, bacterial glycobiology, and cell biology) and technology (advanced protein biochemistry, structural and molecular biology, confocal microscopy, genomics, proteomics).
Postdoctoral fellows will receive ongoing mentorship to help them achieve their full potential and reach their future career goals. In addition, the city of London is very affordable and a nice place to live, especially near the UWO campus (Click here for more information).
We are particularly interested in building and maintaining a multidisciplinary research team. Therefore, these positions should be particularly attractive to recent Ph.D. graduates from Biochemistry, Biophysics, or Cellular Biology graduate programs who are interested in combining their current expertise with microbiology and bacterial genetics applied to biomedical research on host-pathogen interactions.
Recent publications representative of our work can be found here.
