The Hearth Money Rolls of 1663

The first mention of the Short family, presumed to be English Planters, appears to be in the Hearth Money Rolls of 1663.  Listed there are:

Thomas Shorte, in the Parish of Monaghan, Monaghan Town and
James Short, in the Parish of Donagh, Glasslough.

The Parish of Clontibret, Church of Ireland, Vestry Meetings

The Short/Shortt family being researched is recorded in the Parish of Clontibret, Church of Ireland vestry meetings.
James, recorded in 1752 and onwards. At the 1777 Vestry meeting: "......and it is further agreed at said vestry that half seat in said church on the left side at the approach of Mrs. Lucas'.....be appropriated for the use of Mrs. Brown of Lemgare and her family and James Short of Cashel and his family".

#1 Thomas Short, recorded in the Vestry Meetings, 1787 

Thomas Short married Jane/Jean Williams, born in 1764, daughter of John Williams and Sarah Hall, Lappan, Parish of Tehallen, County Monaghan.

They had two recorded children (Williams Genealogy):

1. James Short who emigrated to Fairfield County, Ohio in the United States where he obtained a land grant in 1822 in Rush Creek Township.

2. Elizabeth, born in 1786, Lappan, County Monaghan, who married William Beck and lived in Dublin.

When Thomas Short died Jane/Jean Williams Short married a Mr. Graham and lived in Dublin.
