#3 James Short, found in
the vestry meetings, Parish of Clontibret, can also be found in the Tithe
records for Cashel in 1830 with his son-in-law James Montgomery.
Perhaps this is the James Short found in the British
Parliamentary Papers on Ireland 1801-1922, in the "Select Committee on Orange
Lodges, Associations or Societies in Ireland, 20 Jul 1835":
#662 Master's Name, James Short; District, Castleblaney; County, Monaghan
and Fermanagh; Place of Meeting, Clontibret; Post Town, Castleblaney.
Thus far four of James' children have been identified, some spelling their name with two "T"s.:
1. John Short, 1800-1873
2. James Short, 1808-1879
3. Anne Short Montgomery, 1801?-14 Jul 1879
4. Thomas Short, 1802-1872To be established:Joseph Shortt, born in 1812, in Ireland, died 1895, Toronto, Ontario, Canada. He married Isabella Short, born in 1820, died 1897, Toronto, Ontario, Canada, daughter of Jacob Short and Rebecca, Castleblaney, Parish of Muckno, County Monaghan.
Joseph and Isabella Short Shortt
The distance between Cashel and Castleblaney is 11.6 km, circumstantial evidence to place Joseph within the Cashel Short/Shortt family.
Joseph and Isabella Shortt emigrated to Markham Township, York County, Ontario, Canada, about 1837/8. The chart below outlines their children. The third and fourth generations now live across Canada and in the USA.
