Oct 21/09: Class cancelled due to illness
Given that I have a disease (flu virus, likely) and there are greater than usual to play the "sick role" this year (i.e. stay away from campus) I have cancelled class.  We will discuss this week's and next week's readings in the session next week.

Oct 20/09: Due dates extended for BOTH assignment; all readings now available
Based on popular request, I am giving a week extension for assignment 1 and because of knock-on effects I have also extended the due date for the second paper by a week as well.

The readings are now all available in course's reading repository, including the elusive Elliott et al 1993.

Oct 7/09: Updated assignment details
There is now more detailed informaiton about expecations for the two assignments at the assiignments page.

Sept 24/09: Critical summaries added to participation component

As discussed at the end of last class, the evaluation has changed to include critical summaries.  This will allow those wanting feedback on their writing to get it sooner than assignment 1.

Sept 22/09: New Readings Repository

Since some of the material is not easily available in electronic form, I have created a password protected readings repository - username: geog9107; password: envhlth

Sept 10/09: Class time moved to 2:30-5:30 Wed.
In order to honour TA requests I have bumped the class time ahead 1.5 hrs, it originally was to start at 1pm, but now starts at 2:30 on Wednesdays, except the first day (see next).  I sent an email and nobody objected...

Aug 31/09:  First Class - Sept 16 SPECIAL TIME 3pm-4pm!

All those interested in taking the course please come to class Wed Sept 16 at 3pm in the Pleva Room (2322E). The meeting will cover the scope of the course to ensure it fits your needs.

Description
This course concerns the conceptual frameworks for environmental health research and policy analysis.  There is an emphasis on the appraisal of methods of deriving and substantiating evidence in environment and health research. Approaches to environmental health policy formulation and the uses of evidence in the environmental health policy arena  are explored.

Format
Classes will be tutorial style - discussions based on the readings.  All students are expected to read the material in depth and be prepared with questions/issues to discuss in class.
