DigiComm 2203B Winter 2024

Final Project Example

Assignment 1 - Web Site Proposal

Due: Friday Feb. 9, 2024, 5:00pm

Your web site proposal will outline the design of an original web site. It can be the site you plan to build for you final project but that is not required.

The site must be an original one and not a copy of an existing one. All text on your site must be original with you. You may have quotes, but they need to be appropriately cited. Any images used in your proposal must be your own or have appropriate copyright permissions. You must document these permissions (including if they are you own images).

The proposal is worth 30% of your final grade and is due by 5:00pm Friday Feb. 9, 2024.

The proposal will consist of the following sections

  • Purpose of the site
    • One or two paragraph high level description of the site
    • The following questions should be answered
      • Who is the site for?
      • Why should they visit the site?
      • Why do you want to build the site?
  • Description of the content of the site.
    • A listing of all pages in the site with an indication of the content of each page
    • The following questions should be answered
      • The content of each page highlighting what is unique about the page
      • where the content comes from
      • what processes will be used to keep it current and accurate (should include how pages will change over time)
    • If the second and third questions have common answers, you can list the answers and then the pages for which each answer applies
  • Design documents
    • Site map (and legend if needed)
    • Wireframes of the home page and all unique subpages
      • for each wireframe list the pages it applies to
      • Description of major elements on each wireframe
    • Mock-up of home page
  • Discussion of why particular site organization and layouts were chosen

The site design must include at least 10 pages and more than one level of navigation. This is to ensure that your site has enough information architecture and navigation to discuss.

Please note, the design must allow for at least 10 pages but for your final project you only need to build the home page and 2 others of your choice.

The final mark for the proposal will be based on the quality and not the quantity of the material. Adding optional material does not guarantee a better mark.

The whole proposal should be 4 to 8 pages including diagrams.

You can create your sitemaps, wireframes and page mock-up using the tools covered in class and the exercises. All these tools have free and paid plans, when signing up for a tool be sure to select the free plan. If you already have other tools like Adobe XD, you may use those.

You may prefer to hand draw your sitemaps, wireframes and mock-up on a piece of paper or a whiteboard and take a picture.

Both options are acceptable.

Your proposal must be uploaded as a Word document to Assignment 1 in the Assignments tool in OWL.
