On March 21st at the University of Toronto-Mississauga was the 43rd Southwestern Ontario Undergraduate Student Chemistry Conference. All the undergraduate students gave a talk on their work from this year. In the analytical division two Ding group members won a prize. Seowoo Kim won 2nd place for her talk on CZTS solar cells and Jeffrey Hendersen won 3rd place for his talk on SECM and simulations.

On March 17th it was announced that Dr. Ding along with Dr. Sean Shieh won the Faculty Scholar award. This award is nominated by the dean and then goes through a selection committee. This award recognizes a complete Western scholar who has recently achieved prominence in teaching and research as well as an international presence in their discipline and are considered all-round scholars. Congratulations Dr. Ding!

Dr. Mahdi Hesari has had the distinction of being awarded the Paul de Mayo scholarship. This award honours the top graduate student for the year and consists of a medal and funds for travel for the winner to present their work at Western.

Dr. Ding has two more accomplishments to add to his already long list. He has not only been promoted to the rank of Professor, but also was awarded the Distinguished Research Professorship for 2014-15 by the Faculty of Science. As a Distinguished Research Professor, Dr. Ding will capitalize on the successful development of ionic liquids for spent nuclear fuel applications for use in fuel cell applications and develop new partnerships using this technology.

On Saturday, March 29th 2014 the undergraduate thesis students headed to The University of Windsor to participate in Southern Ontario Undergraduate Student Chemistry Conference (SOUSCC). There, Joesph Turnbull won first place in the Analytical Chemistry division for his talk. Congratulations Joesph!

On October 27th 2012, Daniel Vaccarello, Thomas Stockmann and Dr. Ding attended ESC conference at Laurentian University in Sudbury Ontario. At this conference Thomas Stockmann was the only student lecturer and Daniel Vaccarello received a 2nd place poster prize.
