August 2015

Mahdi, Kalen, and Ryan have published a new paper in the Journal of the American Chemical Society titled "Highly Efficient Dual-Color Electrochemiluminescence from BODIPY-Capped PbS Nanocrystals" (DOI: 10.1021/jacs.5b07633) Congratulations to them on this great achievement!

August 2015

In a joint effort with Dr. T.-K. Sham a paper was published in Journal of Physical Chemistry C titled "Assessing the Band Structure of CuInS2 Nanocrystals and Their Bonding with the Capping Ligand" (DOI: 10.1021/acs.jpcc.5b05940)


Graduate Award for Daniel Vaccarello

August 2015 

Daniel Vaccarello has been awarded the Dr. Joseph Soltys Graduate Award. The Joseph Soltys Graduate Award was established by Mrs. Judith Soltys and others, in memory of Dr. Joe Soltys (BSc '63, PhD '69),through Foundation Western. Congratulations Daniel!


Ontario Graduate Scholarship Winners in the Ding Lab

Daniel Vaccarello, Jeffrey Henderson, Amy Tapley, and Michelle Li have again had their hard work and dedication rewarded. They have all received the Ontario Graduate Scholarship for 2015-16. Congratulations to all of them on their latest accomplishment.


NSERC USRA Winner Joins the Lab

May 2015 

Jeffrey Henderson has obtained NSERC's undergraduate student research award for the summer months. He is staying with Dr. Ding's lab and continuing his research on SECM. Congratulations Jeff!


Undergraduates Win at SOUSCC

March 2015

On March 21st at the University of Toronto-Mississauga was the 43rd Southwestern Ontario Undergraduate Student Chemistry Conference. All the undergraduate students gave a talk on their work from this year. In the analytical division two Ding group members won a prize. Seowoo Kim won 2nd place for her talk on CZTS solar cells and Jeffrey Hendersen won 3rd place for his talk on SECM and simulations.


Dr. Ding wins Faculty Scholar Award

March 2015 

On March 17th it was announced that Dr. Ding along with Dr. Sean Shieh won the Faculty Scholar award. This award is nominated by the dean and then goes through a selection committee. This award recognizes a complete Western scholar who has recently achieved prominence in teaching and research as well as an international presence in their discipline and are considered all-round scholars. Congratulations Dr. Ding!

Paul de Mayo Award given to Dr. Mahdi Hesari

February 2015 

Dr. Mahdi Hesari has had the distinction of being awarded the Paul de Mayo scholarship. This award honours the top graduate student for the year and consists of a medal and funds for travel for the winner to present their work at Western.

ACS Nano Paper

In a joint effort between Dr. Ding's and Dr. Workentin's groups, Mahdi Hesari has published his paper "Highly Efficient Electrogenerated Chemiluminescence of Au38 Nanoclusters" in ACS Nano. Congratulations Mahdi!

Kalen Swanick has received an award for her to travel to the ECL Meeting in Bertinoro, Italy in September 2014. Congratulations Kalen!


Two More Accomplishments for Dr. Ding

July 2014

Dr. Ding has two more accomplishments to add to his already long list. He has not only been promoted to the rank of Professor, but also was awarded the Distinguished Research Professorship for 2014-15 by the Faculty of Science. As a Distinguished Research Professor, Dr. Ding will capitalize on the successful development of ionic liquids for spent nuclear fuel applications for use in fuel cell applications and develop new partnerships using this technology.


Two OGS Awards

Amy Tapley's and Daniel Vaccarello's hard work has paid off. They have both earned the Ontario Graduate Scholarship (OGS) for 2014-2015. Congratulations to both of them on this latest accomplishment.


First Place at SOUSCC

March 2014

On Saturday, March 29th 2014, the undergraduate thesis students headed to The University of Windsor to participate in the Southern Ontario Undergraduate Student Chemistry Conference (SOUSCC). There, Joesph Turnbull won first place in the Analytical Chemistry division for his talk. Congratulations Joesph!


Ding Research Group Welcomes Four New Members

Dr. Ding warmly welcomes Masters candidates Daniel Stitt from Brock University and Saghar (Sara) Khoshmashrab from The University of Toronto, postdoctoral fellow Dr. Lorenzo Perini from University of Padova, and visiting scholar Dr. Wang from CAU to his group. Awards and Honours from Electrochemical Society of Canada Conference

October 2012

On October 27th 2012, Daniel Vaccarello, Thomas Stockmann, and Dr. Ding attended ESC conference at Laurentian University in Sudbury Ontario. At this conference Thomas Stockmann was the only student lecturer and Daniel Vaccarello received a 2nd place poster prize.
